The “Pacific Northwest Women Artists Oral History Initiative” is a project to preserve the history of women artists of the Pacific Northwest. I am pleased that Melissa Granley, a student from the University of Victoria in her final year of an Art History and Visual Studies degree, selected me, as her choice of a local Victoria woman artist to be interviewed as part of her course and added to the Pacific Northwest Artists Initiative webpage. My interview can be found at the link below.

Artists Bio
I was born in Fernie, B.C. I am a life long painter. I earned a B.Ed. from S.F.U. in Burnaby, BC and attended the Emily Carr University of Art & Design, Vancouver, BC. My focus is contemporary painting inspired from study at Vancouver Island School of Art (VISA), Victoria, BC. I live in
Fairfield where I am an active member of the arts community. I regularly participate in the Fairfield Artists Studio Tour and Sidney and Sooke Fine Arts juried shows. My paintings have won awards in the Federation of Canadian Artists shows. I am a founding member of The Gage Gallery Arts Collective and a long time member of Victoria Arts Council.
My acrylic canvases sing with vibrant multicoloured tones of swirling paint, flowing jewel tones, glazes and rich textured patterns. My paintings convey depth and invite interpretation. They evoke meanings and associations, rather than representations. Many images bring to mind memory and a sense of place. My work delves into abstraction. Slabs of paint, applied with a palette knife, generate a feeling of geological pressure that is broken up by more delicate painterly moments – a thin glaze or chance dripping – that break up the intensity of the surface and add poetic variety and subtlety. Massed rectangles and triangles, compressed against each other and leaning on the edges of the canvas, balance relative gravities and weights of colour, size and density.
